OurElected ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
In short: our public pages — the ones anyone can read without an account — may carry advertising, and when they do our advertising partners may use cookies. The signed-in product you pay for does not: there are no ads and no advertising cookies anywhere inside your dashboard. Section 4 explains exactly what our ad partners collect, and Section 7 explains the controls that must be available before advertising is activated.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following information:
- Account information: your email address and encrypted password when you create an account, plus any optional profile fields you choose to provide (such as ZIP code, party affiliation, or political leaning — used only to personalize your in-app experience)
- Subscription data: your billing plan, payment status, and billing transition history (payment details are processed and stored by Stripe — we never store raw card numbers)
- Analytics data: pages you view, how long you spend on them, which features you use (e.g. searches, bill views, alerts), and the funnel steps you reach (signup, pricing, upgrade). Events within one loaded browser tab share an identifier held only in memory; it resets on reload and is never written to cookies or browser storage. Our product analytics are first-party — we collect them ourselves and do not use Google Analytics or the Meta pixel.
- Technical data: your browser, operating system, device type (mobile / tablet / desktop), and approximate country and region derived from your IP address. We do not store the raw IP address, city, or referring page.
- Advertising data: when advertising is enabled on a public page, our advertising partners (including Google) receive your IP address, user-agent, and the page you are viewing, and may read or set cookies in your browser. See Section 4.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and maintain your account and subscription
- Send transactional emails (account confirmation, billing receipts, plan changes)
- Improve the platform based on usage patterns
- Respond to support inquiries
- Detect and prevent fraud or abuse
- Fund the free, public portion of the site through advertising when it is enabled (Section 4)
3. Where Ads Appear — and Where They Don't
Advertising, when enabled, appears only on our public pages: the pages that anyone, signed in or not, can read without an account. Keeping those pages free costs money, and advertising is intended to help pay for it.
The signed-in product is ad-free. We do not display ads, load ad scripts, or set advertising cookies anywhere under your dashboard. If you are a subscriber or a donor, the product you paid for contains no advertising.
4. Advertising and Third-Party Vendors
We may use Google AdSense to serve ads on our public pages. When AdSense is enabled, the following disclosures are required of every AdSense publisher, and they apply to us:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings.
- Alternatively, you may opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info, or for EU users at youronlinechoices.eu.
Google’s own description of how it uses data from sites that use its services is here: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. Ad cookies may be set from google.com, doubleclick.net, googlesyndication.com, and googleadservices.com.
We do not share your account information — your email address, your ZIP code, your saved bills, your stated party affiliation or political leaning — with Google or any other advertising vendor. Ads on our public pages are not targeted using anything you told us about yourself. Google’s own policies additionally prohibit ad targeting based on inferred political affiliation.
5. What We Do Not Do
- We do not sell your personal information
- We do not show ads, or load advertising scripts, inside the signed-in product
- We do not give advertisers your email address, ZIP code, party affiliation, political leaning, or your activity inside the app
- We do not let advertisers influence our content, rankings, or summaries — ad revenue buys placement next to the content, never inside it
- We do not share your email with any third party except as required to operate the service (e.g., Stripe for billing, Resend for transactional email)
6. Cookies and Similar Technologies
Strictly necessary. We use authentication cookies (set by Supabase, our database provider) to keep you logged in. The platform cannot function without them.
Analytics. We create a temporary, randomly-generated identifier in page memory so we can correlate events while you navigate within one loaded browser tab. It resets when the page reloads or the tab closes, is not written to cookies, localStorage, or sessionStorage, and is never sent to an advertising network.
Preferences and app state. We use localStorage and sessionStorage for functional settings such as your color theme and, inside the dashboard, cached interface state. These values keep your choices between page loads and are not sent to an advertising network.
Advertising. When advertising is enabled on public pages, Google and its partners may set cookies used to serve and measure ads, to cap how often you see the same ad, and to detect invalid traffic. These are described in Section 4 and can be turned off there.
7. Your Choices and Rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us. You may also delete your account from your account settings page, which removes your personal information from our systems.
If you are in the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland: we will not activate advertising until a Google-certified consent management platform is available. It will ask for your consent before Google uses advertising cookies, and will let you decline or change your choice without restricting access to the site.
If you are in California or another US state with a privacy law: you have the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not sell your personal information, but the use of advertising cookies described in Section 4 may qualify as "sharing" under some of these laws. Before advertising is activated, we will provide the applicable privacy controls on public pages. You can also manage personalized advertising through Google’s Ads Settings.
The simplest opt-out of all: create an account. The signed-in product carries no advertising at all.
8. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on Supabase, a SOC 2-compliant database platform. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plaintext. Payment data is handled exclusively by Stripe, which is PCI-DSS compliant. We use HTTPS for all data in transit.
9. Children's Privacy
OurElected is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with their information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email. Continued use of OurElected after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
