Past elections ranked by vote margin — top-two for ordinary, runoff, and final ranked-choice races; all votes for the national popular-vote row — chained to the recorded official acts of the people who won them. For presidencies, the page also shows what official statistics recorded over the term. Every displayed figure identifies or links to its source record.
Federal election returns are published here only after reconciliation to official FEC, House Clerk, or state canvass records; MIT Election Data and Science Lab files are ingestion inputs, not the authority. Electoral College tallies from the National Archives. Rows that fail final-result integrity checks are withheld rather than estimated. Numerically pivotal votes are computed from stored official House and Senate roll calls; executive orders from the Federal Register. Term economics are official BLS, BEA and Census series (via FRED), shown as what the record says happened over a term — never as what an election caused, and never what a different result would have produced.
Stored roll calls run Jan 6, 2015 to Sep 30, 2026 (3,061,940 recorded positions); stored executive orders run Dec 30, 1993 to Oct 5, 2026 (1,553 orders). Races whose term falls outside those windows show no chain — a limit of our coverage, not a finding about the winner. A term only partly inside them says so above its record.
